We have all experienced those frustrating moments when browsing our favourite sites or trying to watch catch up TV when the internet speed is just too slow to cope. Many times it is due to the popularity of the site or content you are viewing with the site not able to handle the demand however a new report has now brought to light that it could be your service providers’ issue.
Comparison site uSwitch conducted over two million speed tests and discovered that broadband speeds can drop off by an average of 35% during times when many users are online. Speeds also vary depending on where you are in the country with rural areas experiencing some of the worst drops in speed sometimes up to 69%.
The maximum speeds advertised by providers can often be the deciding factor as to who you choose to go with for your internet connection, however as this report proves not many people actually get these top speeds.
New rules will be applied from next year with providers having to prove that at least 10% of its customers will receive the stated maximum speeds, if not they cannot claim to offer them.
So if you are looking for the best speed you will need to avoid the hours between 7pm to 9pm and insomniacs will be pleased to know they get the best broadband speed between 2am and 3am.
