Superheroes: award-winning app to help children living with cancer

An app specifically designed to help young people living with cancer has won a major mobile health competition award.

Superhero Me! gives youngsters the chance to create a superhero alter ego who can help them find reliable scientific information and provides a stimulus for meeting people, playing games and discovering new experiences.

The winner of the eyeforpharma Gold Award for Mobile Health, Superhero Me! is intended to provide a boost to confidence through the use of a superhero character as an extension of the user. The more the app is used, the stronger the superhero becomes.

The app also acts as an e-journal where thoughts and ideas can be recorded. Cancer treatment schedules and doctors’ appointments can also be listed with notes as to what needs to be remembered and discussed.

Game playing with fellow ‘superhero’ friends in similar circumstances allows networks to be established and experiences to be shared.
