Carphone Warehouse targets second festive world record

Chocolate coin

Mobile Phone Retailer Carphone Warehouse is looking to smash yet another world record this week following confirmation that its 'World’s Largest Chocolate Coin' attempt has been confirmed as a record breaking success by Guinness.

Created to celebrate the launch of the retailer’s £200 Christmas gift cards, the chocolate coin weighs over 200kg (equivalent to 4081 chocolate bars), measures a whopping 3.6 x 3.6m, and is displayed in the atrium of the Westfield Shopping Centre in London.

Over in Dublin, for its attempt at a second world record, Car Phone Warehouse has targeted the 'Most Christmas Crackers Pulled Simultaneously' record which currently stands at 1570. Carphone Warehouse is setting their record attempt at 1600 and the event will take place in Hannover Quay, Spencer Dock in Dublin on 2 December. Should they break the record then they will donate a generous amount to the Simon Community charity. The Simon Community provides emergency accommodation and community support for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Carphone Warehouse will also be donating all profits from their annual in-store gift wrap to the charity.

These Christmas events are just the first to be carried out by retailers around the UK but what do you think?

Do these types of events get you full of Christmas cheer or do you think they are simply stunts to encourage us to buy more products?
