Holiday tips for British travellers
Many people will no doubt be packing their towels and sunscreen in preparation for a welcome break in a sunny climate. However, some may be less likely to consider their personal safety while on holiday than they would at home and one in six has been the victim of theft in a foreign country.
American Express has put together a checklist of useful tips that holidaymakers can use to make sure they do not become a victim of crime abroad.
It includes photocopying all important documents and emailing a copy to your own account in case they get lost.
The company also recommends reading the guidebook to ensure knowledge of the destination, as well as being sure to take the same precautions you would at home, including not walking home alone.
Kirstie Bayley, vice-president of American Express travellers cheques, said that people going on holiday may wish to carry this method of payment instead of solely cash.
"A theft or break-in can ruin the perfect holiday. The last thing people want when they are on holiday is to worry about the safety of their money and belongings.
"This summer we are encouraging holidaymakers to include travellers cheques within their travel wallet," she commented.
People going on holiday this summer may also wish to consider a pre-paid travel card, which can be loaded up in a similar fashion to a pay-as-you-go mobile.
