Save money with an energy efficient appliance, says EST

Save money with an energy efficient appliance, says EST Homeowners could reportedly save money on their energy bills as well as help protect the environment by using energy efficient appliances.

This Energy Saving Trust (EST) points out that appliances which use less power emit fewer greenhouse gas emissions and are also cheaper to run.

This could be good news for homeowners facing large hikes in their energy bills, with reports suggesting they could rise by a further 40 per cent this winter.

Adrian Arnold, head of trade marketing at EST, said that if every household in the UK household replaced their old appliances with new energy efficient ones they could collectively save over £1 billion.

"Energy efficient models of most traditional household appliances are now available and using the most energy efficient model in class can make a huge difference," he remarked.

Mr Arnold said an energy efficient dishwasher will use 40 per cent less energy than an older inefficient one, while a new washing machine will use a third less energy and considerably less water.

EST advises homeowners shopping for new appliances to look for the Energy Saving Recommended logo, which shows they have met the strict criteria on energy efficiency and will cost less to run.ADNFCR-1261-ID-18649484-ADNFCR
