New mobile partnership in the pipeline?
Verizon Communications and search engine giant Google have begun talks relating to a new mobile phone software partnership, according to Bloomberg.Although the exact nature of discussions has not been revealed, someone involved in the meetings has confirmed that such plans are afoot.
Ways to make money from the collaboration are the current topic of conversation, the individual indicated.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Google has also been in talks with another phone company, Sprint Nextel.
However, there have been no official statements from either of the communication firms, or Google representatives themselves, apart from Verizon Wireless spokesman Jim Gerace who confirmed that his company had been in contact with the search engine.
Commenting on the possibility of a Google phone this week, Computer World suggested that it could change the marketplace.
Posing the question 'has a wireless upheaval begun?', the technology site indicated that Google's move into the sector could create a system whereby customers choose a carrier having already purchased a Google phone.
