Coffee 'good for you in moderation'
Although many people may list coffee as a vice that they are trying to give up, it may not be as bad for us as we think.According to Red Door Communications, four or five cups of coffee per day could provide health benefits that are often overlooked.
These include protection against cognitive decline and neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, as well as from type two diabetes.
Some 61 per cent of those surveyed were unaware that the drink could also contribute to daily fluid intake, contrary to the received wisdom that it is dehydrating.
"Almost 70 per cent of [people] in the UK drink coffee to provide a break in our day.
"It has become a major part of the nation's daily routine and we need to understand that in moderation, it is perfectly safe for most people. Relax and enjoy your coffee," commented Dr Sarah Schenker, a dietician and member of the British Dietetic Association.
The survey showed that 63 per cent of people have tried to reduce the amount of coffee they drink because they think it is bad for their health.
According to Coffee Facts, people consume more than 330 million cups of coffee worldwide each day, with black coffee being one of the most appreciated varieties.
As such, it is the third favourite beverage of people throughout the world.
