Tights and straps are 'next big thing'

Sock and sandals have always been a fashion nightmare; something associated with rambling old men and teachers.

The style may not be quite as out of touch as you might think, however.

According to Eric Daman, costume designer on US show Gossip Girl and assistant on Sex and the City, this year's trendiest streets will be lined with stockinged legs and strappy sandals, the LA Times, reports.

With designers and celebrities bringing out the tights, the LA Times asked the designer how to best achieve the look.

"Novices should start with a simple peep-toe pump and solid opaque tight. After that, a high-heel T-strap or platform sandals work best," according to the newspaper.

"Except for trusty black on black, the sandal and tights trend is one that should rarely be matching," it continued.

In order to get the ultimate combination, silver shoes are great in contrast to black tights, as well as other popular colours.

Not everyone can pull off the trend, however. But Daman told the newspaper that "for any look, it's all about owning it and being happy with it."

Bright patterns as well as textured tights are also set to be hot this year, while layering can create a bohemian look, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
