NYFW 'brings skirts back'

NYFW 'brings skirts back' The humble skirt has made a truly fabulous return to the fashion forefront during New York Fashion Week (NYFW), the News Observer has suggested.

Staff writer Samantha Thompson Smith noted that after numerous seasons of favouring the dress, designers have turned their hand back to skirts as a classic separate with a modern twist.

The pencil skirt appears to have kept its legendary position as a must-have, being featured in Adam's latest collection, while the circle skirt, giving a full yet crisp silhouette, made an appearance in the Abaete show.

For the more daring, the mini skirt looks to have the potential for a comeback - Max Azria's first season for Herve Leger continued its much-praised and celebrity-adored bodycon trend with shorter and cuter versions similar to one seen recently on pop princess Rihanna.

Meanwhile, Ms Thompson Smith highlighted the fact that even Diane von Furstenberg - who is widely seen as the inventor of the wrap dress - featured skirts in her Marlene Dietrich-inspired collection, such as a double-knit twill skirt in evergreen which was smartly teamed with a cashmere Henley and blouse.

New York Fashion Week, arguably one of the world's best-known fashion events, concludes on Friday, with many designer evening shoes making an appearance in the meantime.ADNFCR-1261-ID-18455456-ADNFCR
