Arty handbags take catwalks by storm

Arty handbags take catwalks by storm The disciplines of art and fashion are intersecting more and more, it has been claimed.

According to the Chicago Tribune, designers are increasingly coming up with creations that have inspired by the world of art.

Examples include Louis Vuitton's line of handbags inspired by artist Richard Prince's "nurse paintings", resulting in a show where the models dressed up as nurses while carrying the bags.

Shoppers might also have seen various bags in the shops featuring part of a famous painting or album cover - Andy Warhol's iconic Banana print, most famously used on the cover of a an album by the Velvet Underground, is a prime example of this.

"Everybody is trying to make people stop for a moment and pay attention," Eva Jeanbart-Lorenzotti of Vivre.com told the Chicago Tribune.

"To do that, you have to elevate the piece - make it interesting. Art does that."
