I don't think we're in Kansas any more, Gwen

I don't think we're in Kansas any more, Gwen The ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz are to get a 21st century makeover, it has been revealed.

Singer turned designer Gwen Stefani is one of 19 artists who have been chosen to recreate their own version of the shoes, in collaboration with crystal manufacturers Swarovski.

The event comes as the movie industry prepares to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dorothy's adventures in Oz next year.

Stefani's designs, along with other creations from names such as Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo and Diane von Furstenberg, will be unveiled on September 4th at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York.

They will then be displayed for New York Fashion Week and taken on a tour around the US, before being auctioned off for the Elizabeth Glaser Paediatric Aids Foundation.

No Doubt singer Stefani launched her own designer line LAMB (Love, Angel, Music, Baby) in 2003, following her successful relaunch as a solo artist.

The line is well-known for its quirky style, so it is thought that her version of Dorothy's shoes will be in a similar vein.

In the 1939 movie, the ruby slippers are magically transformed onto Dorothy's feet after she kills the Wicked Witch of the East. Dorothy is advised that she must never remove them, or she will be at the mercy of the Wicked Witch of the West.
