Stalin death mask

At this time of year when we are awash with ideas for Valentine’s Day you could be forgiven for not knowing what to do or where to go to find the perfect romantic gesture.

Perhaps you are looking at a holiday getaway, a special dinner or a present that encapsulates your romantic ideals?

Knowing what that special person in your life would like on Valentine’s Day is often a challenge, but for something a little different, you may want to purchase an item of considerable rarity that, as it happens, has only become available to purchase today. An item of such importance that only two of its kind are known to exist.

The bronze death mask of Joseph Stalin, Soviet dictator and tyrant, is such an item.

Not just a mask, Stalin's hands are also included in the deal according to Mullock’s, the British auction house that’s overseeing the sale.

Should Stalin appeal to your other half, the price is a not unreasonable 3,000 to 5,000 pounds, depending of course on how you feel about one of the twentieth century’s biggest mass murderers

"It is the closest you could come to having Stalin in your living room," said Richard Westwood-Brooks from Mullock’s.

Stalin, the real one that is, died in 1953 at the age of 74. Not universally loved in his own country, it has long been thought that he was murdered, and by his closest friends at that.
