Not everyone leaves this world in the manner of their choosing, but the 95-year-old legendary fashion icon and socialite, Zelda Kaplan, has taken her leave of us exactly as she would have planned – dying in the front row of a New York fashion show.
Kaplan made her way to the great fashion show in the sky whilst attending the Joanna Mastroianni fall 2012 show at New York’s Lincoln Center – collapsing head first into her startled and distressed companion’s lap just as the show was getting underway.
As well as being virtually a permanent fixture in the New York fashion and art world for several decades, Kaplan also had a strong philanthropic outlook on life and was heavily involved in global humanitarian efforts, making numerous trips to Africa to lobby for women's rights.
The world may never see her like again.
