A super 2012 awaits moviegoers

Comic book movie fans the world over are in for a treat this year with a number of high profile films on the way over the coming months.

So is this a reflection of the times in which we live? A statement of our desire to live in a chaos free world? Perhaps. But whatever the reason, 2012 is indeed shaping up to be the year of the superhero with Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and the Avengers (which features Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, and Thor) all poised to display their heroism on the big screen.

Adding to this super powered line up are fresh adaptations of the Wolverine, Judge Dredd, and Ghost Rider characters.

Those currently despairing at a down at heel, troubled world may like to think that these heroes represent a desire for stability in an unstable world.

Cynics though would say that box office considerations are the more likely reason for this assembly of heroes. After all, with billions of dollars at the box office the prize, who cares whether the world is mentally and physically content.

Me? I’m with the cynics.
