Lady Gaga beats Steve Jobs to Entertainer of the Year honour

Lady Gaga top entertainer

Perhaps confirming what many of us have long suspected, well for the last 12 months at least, singer Lady Gaga has been voted Entertainer of the Year by The Associated Press – a massive honour indeed.

The 25-year old superstar is reported to be “humbled and honoured” to be considered as such.

She went on: “My deepest gratitude to the broadcasters and journalists who’ve supported me over the years, and in turn, are now supporting the loves of my life: my fans. May you continue to brave the dreams of Showbiz.”

The award will come as more welcome for the singer in a week which has seen the entertainer ‘targeted’ on Twitter and Facebook. Fans of the star had apparently been receiving messages purporting to come from their idol offering free iPad2’s – a hack which may have been part of a phishing scam.

The Associated Press apparently submitted 135 ballots which asked its members to vote for who they felt had ‘the most influence on entertainment and culture in 2011.’

Lady Gaga was given the award following a closely fought battle (three votes)with the deceased Apple founder Steve Jobs. The late Mr Jobs, no doubt, will have been pleased to have been in such close contention.

Others under consideration include singers Taylor Swift and Adele, actor Charlie Sheen, and the cast of the Harry Potter films.

Stop press:  Lady Gaga has been nominated for an Oscar alongside fellow music queen, Elton John, for their duet Hello, Hello from the animated film, Gnomeo and Juliet. Lady Gaga commented: “I'm so happy!”
