Your Pregnancy Concerns Answered
From the first moment of excited disbelief as a positive pregnancy test result is revealed, it is a rollercoaster ride of elation and anxiety. We are here to calm those fears and address some of the concerns that may crop up during your pregnancy. After all pregnancy is full of so many moments to celebrate.
Is something wrong with my baby?
Most babies are born fit and healthy and any problems should be picked up during ante-natal appointments. Attending these appointments and maintaining a good relationship with your midwife is vital. If you have any anxieties in your pregnancy, jot them down and remember to mention them at your appointment.
Pregnancy and giving birth terrifies me!
You will never be so well looked after in your life as the nine months of pregnancy, and doctors and midwives will assess your healthy constantly. Vocalise your fears of the birth with your consultant and he will talk you through pain relief and your birth options. Remember, the choice is yours.
How will our relationship change after the pregnancy?
Having a baby does change everything, but in such a positive way. Try to create space for yourselves as a couple, as well as parents. Keep a night together once a week to chat and switch off from the more mundane aspects of parenthood. Share the tasks between you when possible, and try and give each other a morning off occasionally. In the early months, keep your work load to a minimum - if possible, shop on-line for anything you need to avoid unnecessarily stressful trips with a new baby.
Will I get my pre-pregnancy body back?
Of course you will! You may be delighted to hear that most new mums are slimmer than they were before they were pregnant! Initially breast feeding uses up a lot of extra calories, and once your baby is toddling you will be dashing around all over the place. Do wait at least six weeks after the birth before embarking on any kind of fitness regime or diet as it is vital to let your body recover fully from the rigours of pregnancy and birth.
